music 04: Somethin’ For The Club

Oh snaps! 2 post in one day! lol. I learned to deejay by playing house parties in Milpitas, CA in like ’97-’98. All radio friendly, r&b, hip-hop party music. I had no style or particular theme besides makin girls shake their thang thangs. Which, by the way, is STILL a good goal to have! No matter, enjoy and have fun w/ a “club friendly” mix. I think I only messed up 3 times! That’s alright, they don’t call these bedroom mixes for nothing.

Also, you can download all the other mixes now and listen to your hearts delight!

rants R.I.P Vox.com Blog

So, on August 26, 2006, I started a blog on www.vox.com. It was my “secret” blog for me to rant and air out frustration in my growingly complicated world. It was therapy and a good place to rant unfiltered into the ether. Some of the posts made it to Graegram.com but the majority were purely to rant. Vox is shutting it’s doors at the end of the month but some of the random friends I followed on there I will still keep tabs on because they were really interesting and oddly wise. I think I will still have a secret blog to rant unapologetically but who knows when I will start that again. Below was my first post. Read More »

music 03. Work Music to Chill to

So, after a hard days work, I started packing up my belongings for the move this Saturday back to BK. The gang is splitting up to greener pastures. It has been a fun ride but we all gotta move on and grow. My break from the dust and packing was a quick mix to relax to; nothing crazy just fun, happy music to keep you movin about your day. Enjoy!

Movies Watch: “don’t take any wooden nickels…” teaser trailer

One of the coolest things I learned in school was you are who you surround yourself with. That being the case, my folks are artists, directors, designers, models, actors, dancers, writers, doers and all around creative people. And man, am I glad, cause they keep me grounded and motivated.

Above is the teaser trailer to my very talented friends and new business partners Paul Justin Encinas and Ewell K. Collins new feature full length film, don’t take any wooden nickels…. We are currently working on a short w/ photographer and aspiring  filmmaker Ryan Michael Louie, as well. Fun times with creative heads. Enjoy!

Dance Video: Black Man in a Cold Land

Last Dec I got the opportunity to teach in Jyväskylä, Finland with Hanna Herbertson. It was REALLY dope and really cold but a cool class with eager and receptive students. I cut this video from the class and finally finished it after slacking for months. Enjoy!

Further on dancing, I am part of The House Dance Project in NYC as well. Check us out over at Housedancer.com

music 02. Live Mix at Southpaw BK with Aloe Blacc – 07.16.10

What it do folks! Just a quick gumbo set in between performances at the Aloe Blacc show a few weeks ago. I think next time I will use my iPhone to record so you can hear the crowd and not dead air space when they were all singing. Next time!  A lot of changes have been going on so I am trying to roll with the punches and keep it moving. Shouts out to Ed for reminding to press the record button and The Maroon Cafe for opportunity. I really should do a track listing. One day….

Inspiration Governors Island Jazz Age Lawn Party 07.18.2010

circa 2010

A year ago, the homies and I saw the Satorialist’s pics of the Governors Island Jazz Age Lawn Party and were amazed. So, we made a pact to go this year, full suits, charleston dance, and take pics. Fast forward to day and we did it! It was really dope, fun people, great cocktails, 90% of the people dressed up and had a raging good time. We got a good number of pics taken of us and we loved every minute of it.

It began a really great NYC Sunday filled with a Brooklyn House music outdoor park party, yummy cuban food (yea, i said yummy) and a free comedy show in Williamsburg with Hannibal Burress hosting and featuring Charlene YiJudah Friedlander and my old art Homie, Alex Cole, in the line up as well. Throw in the REALLY dope Aloe Blacc show on Friday night (I was on the 1s and 2s, I’m back son! Thanks TheMaroonCafe & CouchSessions; Kimberly Nicole is the sheit! Live recordings coming soon) and Raphael Saadiq on saturday for good measure.

All in all, I am not complaining. Pope coined the overused term of #bestsummerever on The Table of Truth as a sham but we have ran with it! Photos after the jump! Now on to apartment hunting….

music 01. Music on a Warm Summer Day Mix

So I got hit with some creative inspiration today. I know, I know, it’s been awhile and a lot has been going on but rather than bore you with details I will just show and prove. Now there is no one muse per say but just a combination of dope folks doing things to keep me motivated and creative. So first up is a mix I made after a good dinner & convo. It’s straight no chaser or edits so there WILL be  a few rough patches but nothing crazy, just fun summer music. And now back to coding and designing. . Enjoy!

Inspiration Mortal Kombat Rebirth Trailer

DUDE, this makes me excited for MK all over again! Video game or movie, this is how you do a live action video game. Don’t treat it like a video game and treat it like an interesting story!

Oh summer time in the NYC. Besides working, finding off malware, swimming, and reading alot, the last 2 weeks have been pretty damn fresh! A recap

  • Live jazz at japanese cocktail lounge BFlat then Kiss n Flys Basement (aka RDV) for DJ Mos’s weekly shindig in meat packing
  • Saw comedian Donald Glover aka Troy of Community fame (And a very funny brotha, Hannibal of…uh Williamsburg? lol)
  • Was the” party starter” at the annual Sweat Party by Grae Enterprises and Hanna Herbertson
  • Also hit up the AdiCup 2010 Soccer tournement and was spotted by paparazzi! I hate when they look for me…oh, wait, they were stalking one of the Olsen twins, nevermind :=)
