Inspiration Illustrator: Dave Palumbo

Stephie - Dave Palumbo

Fantasy Artists Dave Palumbo is D-O-P-E. Besides his portfolio site, his cartoon blog w/ his pal walter, his deviant art page, and his blog, he has a separate blog for his 5×7 nudes called “quickies“. He paints beautiful women undressing. Part figure drawing study and part peeping tom, these studies are vibrant and full of attitude. I like these the best of all, as you can see the fun he has and really lets the brush strokes be loose and free.  He recently published a book of the paintings and released a video of one of the paintings [below]After my recent Batman fiasco, Dave Palumbo has inspired me to do better!

sketchbook Art Week: Nekkid People Drawing aka Figure Drawing

A wonderful artist by the name of Marc Scheff started a figure drawing meet up for illustrators in billy burg about a year ago. It is still going strong and now has another meet up in a fresh studio in DUMBO, which I attended. Drawing the human body is fun, challenging, frustrating and highly educational. I remember in school it was like a weekly thing i would tell my non-artists homies I was “nekkid people drawing”. It was funny to them cuz the questions ranged from “Are there hot model chicks?” or “Dude, you gotta draw another dudes schlong?” Either way, as an artist, you have to do figure drawing 1) to sharpen the skills 2) fully appreciate the human form and 3) to hang out w/ other artists and meet new folks. All in all, a good time was had I and will be making more of an effort to attend 1-2 times a month. [more drawing after the jump] Read More »

paintings Art Week: 20 min Batman Painting

So, after dissing Pope Phoenix’s 20 minute batman speed painting, I got it in my head that i could do better! Yea, that might not of been a wise idea. Mines not really  ”better” more “different” I think. The worse part is hearing the timer go off and this is all i have to show for it.Well in honor of his bad batman painting, I shall post MY bad painting for all the internets to see. Luckily, I went to figure drawing today so I can post those drawings and feel better about my self! I am going to post new art everyday this week. Well thats the goal. I know we’ll revisit this in like a month or two to do a better job. Until then…

News Links: Grooveshark.com and MixCrate.com

So, after my fave music site Seeqpod was bout out and seemingly taken offline, I was introduced to other cool sites to feel the void. True, I listen to Pandora but recently they put a limit on hours free users can listen to. (40 hours per month I believe)

Grooveshark.com

Think of it as a new and improved Seeqpod. basically, you can create and endless array of playlists of whatever music you want. you can friend other folks and listen to their lists add and subtract to them. [shouts to @atshering for the link]

MixCrate.com

In another life, i was a deejay w/ the Mix Breed Crew in San Jose, CA. Bringing the love of 90’s R&b music to the masses! Mixcrate is a fresh site for deejays and music lovers alike to to listen to mixtapes and swap and share. Fresh stuff indeed! [shouts to @djprodijay for the link]
